WINDOWS 10 UPGRADE
Posted on 30 July 2015 05:30 PM

Microsoft Windows Media Center is not available in Windows 10, and if you would like to maintain your HTPC setup we recommend you do not upgrade!  Windows Media Center will continue to be supported by Microsoft until they end of life Windows 7 in 2020 and Windows 8 in 2023.

There are currently no alternatives to Windows Media Center for CableCARD protected content on your PC. It's not a question of Ceton supporting other DVR platforms, all CableCARD tuners are required to use the DRI specification from CableLabs. This freely-available specification allows DVR software packages to control CableCARD tuners and access copy-freely content.  To access Copy Once content the DVR software must implement a CableLabs-approved form of copy protection, typically WM-DRM from Microsoft.  This is why MythTV, Sage TV, XMBC, etc. do not support protected content.

These companies are free to implement copy-protection, and no development or support is required from Ceton to enable protected content in DVR software which comply with the CableLabs specification. These software developers would have to work with the encryption vendors, support guide data, and pay licensing fees to implement the required encryption and meet the legal requirements surrounding DVR software and CableCARD technology in their products.

Thank you,

Ceton Support

December 9th 2014 Windows Update Issues
Posted on 11 December 2014 04:15 PM

Dear Customers:

Microsoft's latest patch Tuesday (Dec 9th) introduced a new update (KB3004394) which has caused PlayReady to break for anyone viewing copy-protected content. Microsoft is aware of the issue and is currently working on a solution. If you are currently using an InfiniTV or Echo this update will cause the following problems and errors:

InfiniTV

• Customers who watch any encrypted but not copy-protected channel will get Display Driver error messages
• Customers who watch any encrypted and copy-protected channels (HBO/Showtime) will get PlayReady errors with an update button that will fail

Please note: Customers who watch an unencrypted channel won't have an issue

Echo

• Echo will boot normally then go to a black screen
• Echo will reboot spontaneously after a couple of minutes

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Workaround:

The Windows Update KB3004394 can be uninstalled by following the steps below:

1. Open Windows Control Panel
2. Select Uninstall a Program
3. Click on View Installed Updates on the left
4. Locate Update for Microsoft Windows (KB3004394), Double-click on it, and select Uninstall
5. Reboot If you still have any of the problems described above after re-booting, please re-boot again. You may need to re-boot multiple times.

--  If you are experiencing an issue and have this update installed, please remove this update before opening a support ticket  --

Thank you,

Ceton Support

UPDATE: Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 InfiniTV Drivers
Posted on 22 October 2013 05:56 PM

InfiniTV Driver for Windows 8 and Windows 8.1

The latest beta drivers are available from:  http://cetoncorp.com/infinitv_support/beta-driver-update/

Please check back regularly for driver updates

Upgrade Considerations

Network Tuner Support: The InfiniTV network tuner bridging feature will not be available in Windows 8 or 8.1.  If you are currently using network bridging "tuner sharing" under Windows 7 you MUST reset the InfiniTV back to factory settings before upgrading to Windows 8 or 8.1.  You can reset your InfiniTV back to factory setting using the network tuners wizard found in media center.

*** WARNING: Upgrading to Windows 8 while the InfiniTV is in a bridged state could orphan your InfiniTV  ***

Copy-Protected Content:  Please be aware that DRM content is tied to the specific installation of Windows that made the recordings.   To preserve copy-protected recordings you must upgrade directly from Windows 7 and not perform a clean installation of Windows 8.  This relates to any copy-protected recordings regardless of what brand of CableCARD tuner you used to make the recordings.

Example:  Should you backup any copy-protected recordings for transfer to a clean installation of Windows 8, your copy-protected recordings will no longer be viewable.

Content Integrity: We have had successful reports that when upgrading directly from Windows 7 to Windows 8, the ability to view protected recordings made from the original Windows 7 installation were successful.

InfiniTV Windows 8 Support
Posted on 25 October 2012 10:24 AM

General release is scheduled on October 26th and we’re sure many of you are as excited to upgrade as we are.  We do not recommend that InfiniTV customers upgrade to Windows 8 yet.

We expected that the Media Center feature would be included in the Release to Manufacturing (RTM) version of Windows 8 when it was made available to Microsoft partners in August, it was not.  In fact, it was just released this morning, so we are only now able to start our final testing.

While our current Windows 7 driver does work relatively well under the current version of Windows 8, it should not be considered our release candidate, nor is it supported for use with Windows 8.

InfiniTV Driver for Windows 8

Testing for the InfiniTV Windows 8 driver is progressing well and should be releasing to Beta shortly. Please stay tuned for more details.

Windows 7 USB Hotfix & Power Settings Update
Posted on 28 June 2012 01:53 PM

Any InfiniTV users who have either an InfiniTV USB or tuning adapters will want to apply the following hotfix and power options to optimize performance and stability for Windows 7.

1. USB Hotfix:

For USB InfiniTV users, and people who need tuning adapters, we recommend users to upgrade their USB driver to the latest Microsoft Windows 7 RTM/SP1 hotfix.  It includes all of Microsoft's previous hotfixes related to USB, and addresses numerous issues.

KB Article Number(s): 2720599

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2720599

2. Also, change Power Options:

a. Open the control panel, navigate to the Power Options icon, and double click it
b. Note the power plan that is currently selected and choose "Change Plan Settings"
c. In the Edit Plan Settings dialog box choose "Change Advanced Power Settings"
d. In the list select "USB settings" and choose "USB selective suspend settings"; set "Plugged in" to Disabled

Note: Some USB Enhanced Controllers may not handle selective suspends accurately or can fail when other devices either don't support the feature or behave incorrectly. This can cause devices on that USB controller to lose connectivity.  The above is intended to help with these issues and increase stability.
